FOXTON BREAKS GROUND AT HERNE BAY

2 Jan, 2025

Foxton Construction is thrilled to share that ground has been broken at Altira Business Park, Herne Bay, for the construction of a new David Lloyd Club.

In 2024, Foxton Construction was appointed to lead the construction of the new 48,000 sq ft club, which will offer a wide range of fitness and recreational facilities and job opportunities for the local community.  The site team quickly completed crucial groundwork before the Christmas break, including the excavation of the foundations and laying of the concrete, and the installation of an attenuation tank for surface water drainage.

With a 48-week construction period, the Foxton Construction team is preparing for the next stages of the build, with the steel frame and pre-cast concrete elements of the building in fabrication and ready for installation in January. The building has been designed with a steel frame wrapped in composite cladding panels that sit on concrete pad foundations.  The cladding panels will be covered in several finishes, including timber and corium brick slips, to create the appearance of traditional masonry walls.

The scheme is set to achieve BREEAM ‘Very Good’ and will feature a substantial range of facilities for its members, including;

  • Four swimming pools: An 8m x 25m outdoor pool, an 8m x 5m children’s pool, a 10m x 20m indoor pool, and a hydro pool with both indoor and outdoor sections.
  • Wellness and spa areas: A fully equipped indoor spa with saunas, steam rooms, and an ice cave, along with an outdoor spa garden that includes a plunge pool and relaxation spaces.
  • Tennis and padel courts: Three tennis courts housed within a David Lloyd air dome and three outdoor padel courts under a canopy.
  • Family and children’s facilities: A dedicated family terrace with an outdoor kids’ play area, two indoor activity rooms, and a play frame for younger children.
  • Sports facilities: A multi-use games court and an indoor sports hall for a wide range of athletic activities.
  • Lounge and social spaces: Spacious lounge areas for dining and relaxation, including family and adult lounges, as well as a business hub.
  • Fitness studios: A first-floor gym, along with specialised studios for Blaze, Rhythm & Cyclone, High Energy, and Mind & Body classes, catering to a variety of fitness needs and preferences.

“We are delighted to be delivering this state-of-the-art facility on behalf of our valued client, David Lloyd, and we look forward to continuing our relationship on future club developments.” Brett Kanjurs – Partner, Foxton Construction

With its innovative design and comprehensive range of facilities, the Foxton team will deliver this exceptional new health club over the coming months.
